America's Airman: Ms. Sadiqa Bah

By Airman 1st Class Spencer Slocum 316th Wing Public Affairs

What's your full name, job title and unit?

Sadiqa Bah, Sexual Assault Prevention/Response Specialist A.K.A. SAPR Victim Advocate, Wing Staff Agency.

What's your hometown city and state (and country, if not U.S.)?

Newark, New Jersey.

What has being in the military allowed you to do that you wouldn’t have otherwise done?

As an Air Force civilian, I’ve had the opportunity to work with, and meet people from, all walks of life.  I’ve made acquaintance with individuals of different races, ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as geographical origins.  These experiences have greatly developed my cultural intelligence.

What's the coolest thing you’ve done in the military?

Mentoring and working with young Airmen.  I would have to say that is not only the coolest, but also the most rewarding.

What hobbies do you have/what do you do in your spare time?

Community service, such as delivering meals to the elderly. Also, speaking to children about inappropriate touching and safety. I love discovering new and old music of different genres and challenging my body by trying different fitness programs. I also enjoy mentoring youth.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life?

This is as challenging to say here as it was to face; asking for help when I needed it.  I struggled for many years with anxiety and depression.  Accepting it and admitting it to myself and others wasn’t easy.  However, I am grateful to God for giving me the strength to seek support.

What are two interesting facts about yourself?

I collect vinyl albums of amazing artists such as Etta James, Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway, etc. I also love recording myself singing. Although it sounds awful, it brings me so much joy.
