New TLF provides TLC for PCSing families

By Staff Sgt. Torey Griffith 11th Wing Public Affairs

Moving to a new station is often full of unknowns.  What will the new base be like?  Will the people be nice?  Will the Temporary Living Facilities be old and gross or nice and new?

The new Presidential Inn TLF, which opened Aug. 14, 2012,  will help to resolve at least one of those uncertainties for new Team Andrews families.

Col. William Knight, 11th Wing/Joint Base Andrews commander, who joined Team Andrews in July, is familiar with the permanent change of station experience.

"Even when you're excited about where you're going, the PCS process can be a very stressful experience for our families," Knight said at the opening ceremony for the TLF.  "TLF is often the first impression families have of their new base. This new facility has been in the works for several years, and will serve as a warm welcome to the newly-assigned personnel at Andrews for decades to come."

Located on the corner of Colorado avenue and F street, the facility's 50 units feature fully-equipped kitchens, separate bedrooms and living rooms, comfortable furniture and energy-efficient LED lighting, according to 1st Lt. Chavery McClanahan, 11th Force Support Squadron officer in charge of lodging. New families are able to stay in TLF for up to 30 days while they search for a permanent residence.

Wheelchair-accessible rooms are designed for maximum convenience with easy-access counter tops and cabinets, front-load washers and dryers, and roomy restrooms.  Pet-friendly rooms have hardwood floors and complementary kennels. They are also located near the facility's dog park.

"Our entire staff has put a lot of effort into making the new TLF a welcoming place for Andrews' newest families," said McClanahan. "We take a great deal of pride in our work, and we hope our guests enjoy their stay with us."
