11th FSS: Taking care of Airmen

By Airman 1st Class Ryan J. Sonnier 11th Wing Public Affairs

The 11th Force Support Squadron has the daunting task of servicing approximately 60,000 Airmen in the National Capital Region and Worldwide.

With such a diverse population, different parts of the squadron aim to focus on the various needs families may have.

Lt. Col. Colin Huckins, 11th FSS commander, said squadron's main priority is to serve the people.

"Everything we do is for the people," Huckins said. "Our mission is to take care of all military and families assigned here."

As one of the top three priorities of the 11th Wing commander, "taking care of Airmen and families," much of this work falls on the 11th FSS.

"It's very fulfilling to help other people and work alongside phenomenal individuals who are part of the squadron," Huckins said. "They are dedicated to taking care of their fellow Airmen and families."

Huckins said the majority of people assigned to Andrews don't live on base, so one of the biggest challenges is being able to constantly adapt to their needs. To accomplish that, FSS offers child and youth services, dining, lodging, Military & Family Support Center, military resources and recreation.

"The great thing about the 11th FSS is, we touch every unit on base," he said. "Our mission is the people; we take care of every aspect, from childcare to being the mortuary officer for the installation."

Master Sgt. Alan Mann, 11th FSS first sergeant, is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring morale, welfare and health needs of Airmen are met.

"I am proud to work with the FSS; the scope and impact of their services are immeasurable," Mann said. "I am thankful for the support our military and civilian personnel provide to our Air Force families."
