JBA celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
A Japanese exhibit is displayed during the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebration at Joint Base Andrews, Md., May 30, 2018. Congress officially designated May to be Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month Oct. 23, 1992. May was selected for this celebration because it holds anniversaries such as the arrival in the U.S. of the first Japanese immigrants May 7, 1843, and the completion of the first transcontinental railroad with the labor of thousands of Chinese immigrants May 10, 1869.
