Colonel Samuel J. Chesnut, IV is Vice Commander, 89th Airlift Wing, Joint Base Andrews, MD. The wing is responsible for worldwide special air mission airlift, logistics, aerial port and communications support for the President, Vice President, cabinet members, Combatant Commanders and other senior military and elected leaders as tasked by the White House, Air Force Chief of Staff and Air Mobility Command. The wing provides 24/7 alert airlift and operates an Executive Airlift Training Center and Government Network Operations Center.

Colonel Chesnut is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. His background includes operational experience at several KC-135 units, formal training experience at the KC-135 schoolhouse, operational experience at Ganci AB, Kyrgyzstan, joint staff experience at US Strategic Command, an operational command at McConnell AFB, KS, and HQ Air Force staff experience at the Pentagon in requirements, operations and acquisitions. He holds a Command Pilot rating with over 3200 flight hours and 200 combat hours (in the KC-135). He has flown in support of operations in Southwest Asia, Europe and the Pacific. Colonel Chesnut, 47, hails from Birmingham, AL.
