JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md.,
Approximately 350 riders, family members and spectators attended the 4th annual Joint Base Andrews Motorcycle Safety Day, June 20, 2014.
The event included riding competitions, guest speakers, a police-escorted off-base ride, live entertainment, food and the opportunity to meet with local motorcycle dealers and riding groups.
"We wanted to spread the message that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cures," said Master Sgt. Matthew Cagle, 744th Communications Squadron plans and project manager and motorcycle safety representative. "It is our sincere desire to eliminate as many myths as possible and educate riders on responsible riding, whether on or off duty."
The speakers focused on general motorcycle safety and rider awareness. Attendees learned about safety from fellow riders' testimonies and law enforcement professionals.
"My best advice for preventative measures to ensure safety while riding is to always be mentally prepared to ride," said Harry Waddle, 11th Wing weapons safety manager and motorcycle safety advocate. "Be prepared and up-to-date on the maintenance of your motorcycle."
