At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, Joint Base Andrews initiated lockdown procedures after an armed individual was reported near base housing. This is not an active shooter situation, as no shots have been fired. There are no reported injuries or deaths.

Twin newborns medically evacuated from Osan Air Base, South Korea, landed at Joint Base Andrews in a C-17 Globemaster III this evening. The pair were then transported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for advanced neonatal care.

Joint Base Andrews increased its health protection condition (HPCON) at 3 p.m. today in response to the coronavirus pandemic. At the direction of Col. Andrew Purath, the commander of the 11th Wing and Joint Base Andrews, the base shifted from HPCON Bravo to HPCON Charlie. Other military bases throughout the National Capital Region have similarly shifted to HPCON Charlie.
