National American Indian Heritage Month

By Airman Noah Sudolcan 11 WG/PA

JBA is hosting multiple events throughout the month of November in recognition of National American Indian Heritage Month.

The month-long observance is to recognize the significant contributions Native Americans have made throughout U.S. history.

“We are just hoping to inform people and that everyone comes with an open mind,” said Chara Pina, staff accountant for Secretary of the Air Force Financial Operations and event organizer.

The events will kick off with a speech by Dennis Zotigh, writer and cultural specialist from the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, at the Community Commons Nov. 7 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Zotigh will speak on “Native Patriotism: American Indians in the Military.” Following his speech, Pina will talk about “We are still here: My story.”

The Community Commons will show the documentary “True Whispers: The story of the Navajo Code Talkers” Nov. 15, from 1-3 p.m. Guests in attendance will be able to view Native American artifact replicas before and after the film.
