JBA introduces new dorm app

By Senior Airman Delano Scott 11th Wing Public Affairs

To ensure every service member’s stay at the dorms is as convenient as possible, the base’s Airman Dorm Leaders introduced the JBA Dorms Mobile Application.

The app, which is free and currently available for download on popular digital distribution services, provides up-to-date dorm event calendar, the unaccompanied housing guide, a newsletter and an option for repair request.

“Initially, we created the mobile application because we realized residents were having an issue coming to our office during our duty hours to report room discrepancies,” said Tech. Sgt. Mark Apuzzo, 11th Civil Engineer Squadron unaccompanied housing NCO in charge. “Many residents were rushing down here before work, during lunch, and after work to address any issues or concerns.”

The new app, which first launched March 11, 2017, allows Airmen to submit repair request without having to report to the dorm management office.

“Currently, our mobile application has been downloaded 200 times and opened more than 1,450 times,” Apuzzo said. “All of our 70 repair requests since the adoption of the app have been submitted through JBA Dorms.  This reporting has allowed our facility maintenance team to complete 100 percent of the work requests in less than 48 hours.”

Dorm residents have taken notice of the new convenience that dorm app now provides.

“The app is easy to use; I mainly use it to put in requests for things that need to be fixed in my room,” said Airman 1st Class Desireestorm Vasquez, 11th Wing Command Chief Executive Administration administrative technician. “It goes straight to their office and I get a response quickly.”

Emergency requests will still need to be reported as soon as possible. During duty hours, please call 3019814479 and after duty hours, call 3019815151

The app’s “Events” section will let you know of upcoming events such as dorm dinners.

“Because of our event calendar and push-notification ability, we have averaged 125 residents per dorm dinner that is held on the last Thursday of every month.” Apuzzo said.  “This mobile application has allowed us to drastically improve the quality of life for our dorm residents as well as increase the life of our buildings, saving the unit a large amount of money long-term.”

The “Newsletter” section will supply useful information regarding living quarters and any other special announcements.

Finally, questions pertaining to the dorms can be stated in the “Ask an ADL” section and dorm management personnel will respond as soon as possible.

To find the app, simply search for "JBA Dorms" and install it. The dorm management office will still accept paper work orders and will continue to disseminate information out through email.
