Johnathon D. Harris, Executive Officer UH-1N Evaluator Pilot, 811th Operations Group

What's your hometown city and state?

Phoenix, AZ

Why did you decide to serve in the military?

I have come from a long line of military service and have always thought I would go into the Air Force.

How do you think your job impacts the wing’s mission?

As the Ops Group Exec, I accomplish the behind-the-scene tasks that keep the Wing’s only flying group operational. These tasks include OPRs, EPRs, MSRs, Awards, and all of the other paperwork that comes through the group staff.

What's been your favorite assignment/TDY and why?

My favorite assignment was at Fairchild AFB, WA. I was assigned to a rescue squadron where I was able to accomplish Search and Rescue for the local community and MEDEVAC for the USAF Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape school.

What is your dream assignment and why?

This summer, I will be attending medical school. My wife is a nurse and I would like to prove that I am as smart as she is.

What's the coolest thing you’ve done in the military?

The coolest thing I have been able to do in the military is rescue a hunter who was injured. My crew and I flew on Night Vision Goggles, held a 100’ hover on the side of a cliff, and were able to evacuate the injured hunter to a local hospital.

What hobbies do you have/what do you do in your spare time?

I spend most of my spare time with my wife and five year old daughter. We love being outdoors doing anything from hiking, camping to just playing at a park.

Biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life?

I have faced challenges all of my life from getting into ROTC, getting a pilot slot, and now getting into medical school. Each stage of life is a little more challenging than the last but working hard and using the tools you learn along the way can help you surpass any of life’s challenges.
