QOLCOMM update

By Airman 1st Class Rustie Kramer 11th Wing Public Affairs

Joint Base Andrews launched the Quality of Life Communication feedback tool Dec. 16, 2015, which allows users to make suggestions to base leadership that will improve the quality of life on JBA and track the progress of approved suggestions. For almost a year it has spawned numerous suggestions like road repairs across base, upgrades to the West Fitness Center equipment, and Child Development Center playground improvements.

“So far we’ve had 135 submissions and about 32 completed QOLCOMM recommendations,” said Master Sgt. Marcus Washington, 11th Wing Staff/11th Comptroller Squadron first sergeant.

Ideas are submitted by members of JBA through the QOLCOMM website, which put the improvements in queue for review.

In order for an idea to become reality the QOLCOMM board reviews each submission.

The board is made up of first sergeants or a representative from each of the wings on JBA, key spouses and a representative from the 11th Wing Judge Advocate and Public Affairs Office.

After the submissions are reviewed and narrowed by the board, they are presented during the Integrated Delivery System meeting, which meets monthly and consists of leadership from around JBA to discuss a variety of issues including trends, events and changes that affect installation personnel.

Once leadership has approved a submission, it is assigned to the unit responsible for processing.

“There have been some good ideas that were able to be completed,” said William Sanders, 11th Wing community outreach coordinator. “The customer is always being updated when things change with the item they submitted.”

Sanders added that any safety issues are immediately addressed.

Approved ideas can be tracked from the approval to the completion on the QOLCOMM site, which shows pending, working and completed submissions.

“QOLCOMM is a great way to prove the entire JBA community a direct voice to leadership about any issue that impacts our quality of life,” said Col. E. John Teichert, 11th Wing and JBA Commander. “Taking care of people is a top priority and we can do it best by using regular community feedback. I have a keen interest in ensuring that this tool is fully integrated into our decision making to care for our most important asset, our people.”
