Imagine Andrews to launch enrollment lottery

By Staff Sgt. Joe Yanik 11th Wing Public Affairs

Imagine Andrews Public Charter School is scheduled to hold a lottery for military families to enroll their children for the 2017 school year.

Parents and legal guardians who submit for the lottery must be military dependents or members assigned to Joint Base Andrews and reside on base or within Prince George’s County.

This year, interested military families must contact Imagine Andrews to obtain a Prince George’s County Public Schools student identification number by calling (301) 316-1802, ext. 22.

The lottery will take place February 13 - May 26, and allocate 65 percent of student seats to children of selected families.

“Military dependents make up half of the student population at Imagine Andrews,” said Dr. Andria McMichael, Imagine Schools of Mid-Atlantic regional director. “We ensure development and implementation of a student lottery pilot program that is secure, user friendly and efficient, resulting in a better overall enrollment experience for military families assigned to or living on Joint Base Andrews.”

According to Imagine Andrews’ official website, research studies show that students whose parents are deployed in active war zones often experience emotional and behavioral problems that alter their academic performance and outcomes.

“Imagine Andrews incorporates a heightened understanding of stressors facing the students from military families.” said McMichael. “Our Imagine Schools take pride in developing character and enriching minds of all learners and having a deep commitment to the growth and stable enrollment of military dependents.”

Military families selected for the lottery will be notified between May 26 and June 4.

For additional information regarding the application or lottery process, contact Ms. Tina Chavis at the Imagine Mid-Atlantic Regional Office at (301) 316-1802, or by email at tina.johnson@imagineschools.org.
