By Airman 1st Class Isabelle Churchill, 316th Wing Public Affairs

The Joint Base Andrews 2022 Air & Space Expo is taking off tomorrow, Sept. 16, 2022, beginning with a day devoted to the Department of Defense.

This marks the beginning of the loudest, proudest event of 2022, and is open to all DoD personnel. JBA will open its gates to the public for the Air & Space Expo on Sept. 17 and 18.

Base access requires any form of standard issued ID that would grant admission to the installation on a day-to-day basis. For a complete list of acceptable IDs, please view them here.

DoD ID card holders can sponsor up to six guests in the same vehicle to gain access to the installation, Sept. 16-18, without visitor passes. Guests must remain with their sponsor at all times.

On DoD Day, the ramp will open at 9:00 a.m., and the opening ceremony will commence around 10:30 a.m. This year’s event will feature a variety of aerial performances, including the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron “Thunderbirds,” the U.S. Army Parachute Team “Golden Knights,” the United States Air Force Academy Wings of Blue and many more!

There will also be several static displays for viewing, including, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, C-17 Globemaster III and the F-15E Strike Eagle. Show time ends at 4:00 p.m.

Parking

On DoD Day, DoD ID card holders will park on the Eastside ramp (459th/113th MPA). Signs and traffic control points will be in place to guide guests to the location. Once parked, guests will have to go through a security screening process and have their hand stamped to show that they have been vetted. They will then be shuttled directly to the flight line.

There will be no parking exceptions. If guests park at any other location and walk to the event, they will be turned away and directed to process through the Eastside screening zone.

On Sept. 17 and 18, all non-DoD guests without a sponsor must park at FedEx Field, 1600 FedEx way, North Englewood, Maryland 20785. Guests will then be bused to the JBA flight line. The parking lot will open at 8:00 a.m., and buses will start running at 8:30 a.m. Buses will stop running from FedEx field at 1:00 p.m.
