Media Release: UH-1N Precautionary Landing

By 11th Wing Public Affairs

A UH-1N Huey helicopter assigned to the 1st Helicopter Squadron based at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland made a precautionary landing near William Ramsay Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia at 10:43 a.m.

The precautionary landing was in response to a transmission warning light and the aircraft landed safely. There were seven personnel on board.

"Following the illumination of a transmission warning light, standard operations and training call for rotary wing crews to 'land now and investigate later,' in response to situations that may prove to be serious" said Lt. Col. Scott Yeatman, 811th Operations Group deputy commander. "This crew's timely and appropriate response assured no damage to aircraft, personnel or property."

Maintenance crews have arrived at the scene and are currently assessing the situation.

More details will be released as they become available.  Questions should be directed to the 11th Wing Public Affairs Office at 240-612-4428.
