America's Airmen honor first responders
Col. E. John Teichert, 11th Wing and Joint Base Andrews commander, rings a fire bell as he says aloud the name of the first responder he was representing, during the 2017 Richmond 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Richmond, Va., Sept. 10, 2017. Each participant carried a badge displaying the name and photo of someone who lost their life in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. At the end of each climb, the participant would ring the bell three times, representing the end of the emergency and the return to quarters; a tradition which honors the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice.
