Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)

The AFAS is the official charity of the US Air Force. It promotes the Air Force mission by helping "to relieve distress of Air Force members and their families and assisting them to finance their education".

Seminars/Workshops offered:

Spouse Orientation: A Heart Link Program offers all spouses of base personnel a free lunch and an informative half day event. This is designed to strengthen military families and enhance mission readiness, while appreciating the important role spouses have and ensuring they feel a part of the Air force "team." Free childcare available; registration is required. Please call the M&FSC for reservations and childcare voucher at 301.981.7087.

Bundles for Babies workshop addresses the role of new parents; providing guidance and information on nutrition for mom and child, financial changes, safety concerns and more. Bundles are provided to military families expecting a child, regardless of rank, branch of service or number of children in the family. Enrollment is also open to active duty member and spouses with an infant of 6 months or less. Please call for more information at 301.981.7087.

Give Parents a Break is an opportunity for spouses of deployed and remotely stationed personnel to receive free childcare during the monthly "Parents Night Out". The program also provides a much needed break for active duty Air Force families under stress in need of respite time. Referral certificates are issued by the M&FSC, and registration is required with vaccine records at the Child Care Registration Office. Eligible families will receive a certificate to use the program for specific period of time.

Childcare for PCS was created to help relieve the stress for AF families during the PCS process. AFAS will fund up to 20 hours of child care (per child) in a licensed Andrews Family Childcare Provider homes, base upon the active duty member's orders within 30 days of departing or arriving at an installation. Children must be registered through the Child Care Registration Office and vouchers are supplied by the M&FSC with a copy of the member's orders.

Childcare for Volunteers is available to AF active duty members' spouses who volunteer on Andrews. Free childcare is provided within a Family Childcare Provider's home, while spouse is volunteering on base. This service is sponsored by AFAS and the M&FSC. Children must be registered through the Child Care Registration Office. Please contact the M&FSC for more information.
