744th Communications Squadron

The 744th Communications Squadron delivers world-class communications capabilities at Joint Base Andrews-NAF Washington. Our squadron ensures mission success for a wide range of stakeholders by providing critical IT capabilities to 22,000 users across the installation, supporting 2 Headquarters, 6 Wings, 84 tenant units, and 30 Geographically Separated Units.

Purpose:
Our purpose is to provide comprehensive, reliable, and secure communication services that enable operational success for all personnel at Joint Base Andrews. We ensure the uninterrupted functionality of communication systems that support vital operations and national defense.

What We Do:
The 744th Communications Squadron offers a broad range of services to support base and mission requirements:

  • Voice Systems: Manages a 30K-line switch that processes over 60 million calls annually, ensuring smooth telecommunication for personnel across the base.
  • Network Management: Sustains a $418 million network supporting 22,000 users, ensuring connectivity across multiple platforms and systems.
  • Cable Maintenance: Maintains 1,200 miles of copper, fiber, and layer-1 infrastructure to provide a robust foundation for communication systems.
  • Radio Frequency Transmissions (Radio): Oversees a $30 million Land Mobile Radio (LMR) network and configurations for 6,000 assets across the National Capital Region (NCR), as well as providing Public Address support.
  • Data Center: Manages policy and device accessibility rules, as well as storage for over 250 agencies.
  • Tech Control Facility: Operates one of DoD's Largest Tech Control Facilities monitoring 1,100 circuits reaching 245 locations, ensuring stable and secure communications.
  • Walk-Up Help Desk (Fix It): Provides on-demand assistance for client systems, ensuring that personnel have the tools they need for mission success.
    • Executive Support Services: Dedicated support for over 78 key decision-makers, providing office/small-office/home-office (SOHO) services to ensure smooth operations for senior leaders.
    • Desktop Support Services: Provides desktop and network peripheral support for Joint Base Andrews.
    • Video Teleconferencing: Supports full O&M lifecycle for government Command and Control (C2) conference rooms and video-teleconferencing endpoints, enhancing collaborative efforts across the base.
    • Personal Wireless Communications System (PWCS): manages the O&M lifecycle for mobile devices such as cellular phones, tablets, and hotspots.
  • Freedom of Information Act & Privacy Act Management: Manages the third-largest FOIA program in the Air Force.
  • Base Records Management/Pubs & Forms Management: Governs 223 Records Professionals across 47 organizations and manage 11 base publications.
  • Enterprise Information Management: Serves as the HAF and AFDW SharePoint Enterprise Manager, overseeing over 2,100 AFDW SharePoint sites.
  • Jacob E. Smart Building AV/IT Support: Delivers comprehensive AV/IT support for the premier DAF conference center.
  • Visual Imagery & Intrusion Detection System (VIIDS): Ensures 24/7/365 sustainment of IDS protecting the Presidential Airlift Group and Special Airlift Mission hangars, safeguarding assets including Air Force One.
  • Base Cybersecurity Office: Manages and enforces cybersecurity policies and procedures to safeguard the base's critical infrastructure, protecting it from cyber threats.
  • Communications Security (COMSEC): Operates the largest COMSEC account in the National Capital Region with 34 sub-accounts. Ensures secure and encrypted communication systems, safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining the integrity of all classified communications.
