Joint Strike Fighter makes first appearance during 2011 JSOH

An aircraft carrier variant of the F-35C Joint Strike Fighter flies over Joint Base Andrews, Md., during the 2011 Joint Service Open House. This is the first public appearance of a joint strike fighter aircraft at an air show. Lt. Cmdr. Eric "Magic" Buus piloted the aircraft. The F-35C is a fifth generation strike fighter with stealth capability and has larger wing surfaces and reinforced landing gear for the demanding carrier environment. Members of the Old Guard give spectators a taste of what it takes to guard the tomb of the unknown solider and other important jobs at the 2011 Joint Service Open House here May 22. The JSOH affords the public an opportunity to meet the men and women of the Armed Forces and see military equipment from the Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard. The JSOH is planned and conducted through the efforts of active duty, guard and reserve servicemembers, as well as civilian employees, retirees and family members.
