Golf demo tees-off awareness month

By Staff Sgt. Ryan J. Sonnier 11th Wing Public Affairs

The Courses at Andrews and the Stand Up and Play Foundation worked together to host a golf demonstration for National Disability Employment Awareness Month on JBA, Oct. 6.

Anthony Netto, SUPF founder, created the foundation to help people with disabilities play golf. The event featured a Paramobile golf cart that was donated by the SUPF to the golf course in June. For those interested in using the free-of-charge cart, call ahead to check its availability.

“We believe those with disabilities can still lead active lives and golf brings that avenue into focus,” said Michael Thomas, golf course general manager. “The Paramobile helps foster continued golf play for our paralyzed veterans.

The demo was one of many events taking place here for NDEAM. JBA is also schedule to host a movie screening of “Stronger” on Oct. 20, and a golf tournament on Oct. 27. This year’s theme is ‘inclusion drives innovation.’

“It is important to recognize NDEAM because it gives us an opportunity to promote a culture and educate employers about the hiring of individuals with disabilities,” said Tonya Abrams, 11th Wing equal opportunity specialist. “Workers with disabilities increase diversity in the workforce, thus building a stronger force of America’s Airmen in the 11th WG.”
