JOINT BASE ANCACOSTIA-BOLLING, WASHINGTON, D.C. –
Colonel Robert Bowersox, the 79th Medical Wing Commander passes the reigns of command to Colonel Michelin Joplin who assumed command of the 579th Medical Group on Friday, July 10 at 9 a.m. at a ceremony held at the Bolling Club on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington D.C.
She is the new Commander of the 579th Medical Group, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington D.C.
She directs health services supporting Headquarters, United States Air Force, Defense Intelligence Agency, Air Force District of Washington, Joint Area Defense Operations Command, White House Communications Agency, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and 233 geographically separated units worldwide. She provides leadership and mentorship to 210 assigned military, 32 civilians, and eight contract employees among three squadrons and three sites. Her Medical Group delivers preventive, acute and chronic medical and dental care to 20,000 Tri-Service beneficiaries assigned to the National Capital Region. She oversees the Advanced Education In Dentistry Residency and ensures members plan, train and deploy to support worldwide contingencies.
The 79 MDW is a mission partner on Joint Base Andrews with two subordinate units, the 779th Medical Group (779 MDG), located on Joint Base Andrews, and the 579th Medical Group (579 MDG), located on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. Additionally, these groups have medics working across the National Capital Region (NCR), including Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center, Fort Belvoir, Fort Meade and the Pentagon.
