JBA and community gather for Small Business Summit

By Senior Airman Mariah Haddenham 11th Wing Public Affairs

The 11th Contracting Squadron held a Small Business Summit at The Club on Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, May 4.

Approximately 70 attendees from various businesses, ranging from construction representatives to local company owners, gathered to discuss upcoming contracts, bidding requirements and how to use them to their advantage.

"At JBA we need close-knit partnerships with small businesses to accomplish our important mission set,” said Col. John E. Teichert, 11th Wing and JBA commander. “Small business owners are our friends, neighbors and colleagues, and our annual Small Business Summit allows us to create competition, cultivate partnerships, and construct collaborations to project airpower and diplomacy from America's Airfield."

JBA had an opportunity to inform possible bidders that current contracts are about to expire and new opportunities are approaching. Representatives from several squadrons explained the service roles of small business offices to JBA and requirements for accessing federal contracts.

Some of the contracts JBA will be looking to fill include engineering services, freight transportation, education services, general construction, and more.

The summit was a chance for the base and local business owners to develop and execute responsive strategies and compliant sourcing solutions to enable JBA’s mission capabilities.

Speakers stressed the importance of small businesses and the desire for competition in contracts that give businesses the opportunity to earn new revenue through more than 50 contracts available for bid.

“It’s nice to have outreach from the Air Force,” said Brian Segedin, Small Business Summit attendee. “This gives us the opportunity to bring in outside technologies and efficiencies through small businesses, which is great.”
