On Friday June 2, Major General Roosevelt Allen, Jr. attended an unveiling of his portrait that will hang in the executive hallway of the 79th Medical Wing on Joint Base Andrews.
Major General Roosevelt Allen, Jr. served as Commander, 79th Medical Wing, from June 18, 2014 to June 19, 2015. While in command, he served concurrently, as the Assistant Surgeon General for Dental Services and the Air Force District of Washington Surgeon General.
General Allen’s mission focus ensured 1,300 active duty wing personnel were postured for rapid medical response supporting national events, contingencies and disasters within the National Capital Region. In addition, he directed the medical force health protection preparation during an Ebola virus crisis.
General Allen lobbied to the Defense Health Agency to terminate 2.1 million dollars in valued engineering efforts, restoring over 500,000 dollars in projects and secured an additional 2 million dollars, significantly impacting facility design while increasing the project’s contingency fund. As the Dental Service Corps Chief, he provided policy and operational advice to the Air Force Surgeon General on the dental practice of 1,000 dentists and 2,500 technicians, enabling delivery of patient centered quality care, while providing a 95 per cent world-wide dental readiness rate.
In 2015, General Allen became the Director of Medical Operations and Research, responsible for executing health care policy in support of 44,000 personnel and 75 medical treatment facilities with a budget of more than $64 billion. He ensures a quality, cost-effective, preventative-based health care continuum for 2.6 million beneficiaries worldwide, and is responsible for providing strategic guidance for Air Force Medical Service research and acquisitions.
