Airmen of Note celebrate 70 years of USAF heritage on West Coast

By A1C Gabrielle Spalding 11th Wing Public Affairs

The U.S. Air Force Band premier jazz ensemble, Airmen of Note, toured California, Sept. 22 to Oct. 3.

During the fall 2017 tour, the ensemble performed at more than 10 locations and brought Air Force musicians, who represent all Airmen, to West Coast audiences.

“The bonds that the band is able to forge while traveling as musical ambassadors is great to be a part of,” said Master Sgt. Grant Langford, U.S. Air Force Band Airmen of Note saxophonist. “We hope that people not only enjoy the concerts but come away with more pride in their country and trust and confidence in their U.S. Air Force.”

For more than six decades, the Airmen of Note have honored service members and inspired people worldwide.

The band performed at various venues including: Point Loma Nazarene University, Disneyland, Oxnard Performing Arts and Convention Center and the Reed L. Buffington Visual and Performing Arts Center, to audiences ranging from middle school students to World War II veterans.

Byron and Lisa Ellis, PLNU and Disneyland audience members and longtime fans of the band, travelled from Seattle, Wash. to hear them play.

“There is nothing more precise than [the] military and the Airmen of Note is no exception,” Byron said. “To hear them [live] was really exciting; they didn’t disappoint.”
