In an effort to strengthen spiritual fitness among dorm residents in the Joint Base Andrews community, the 11th Wing Chapel has opened the Airmen Ministry Center here Nov. 16, in building 1631.

The goal of the center is to create a space for Airmen to feel safe strengthening their spiritual health with the support of one another

“The Airmen Ministry Center is for folks who are finding their footing in the Air Force and in their spiritual life and who need a community to do that with,” said Capt. Greg L. DuBow, 11th Wing chaplain. “It’s a place where they can build the foundations that will guide the rest of their lives.”

The idea for the center started when a young Airman mentioned to DuBow the conflict of joining mostly older service members for religious services, and wishing there was a place designated for younger people, he said.

It took a while, but with help from the 11th Civil Engineering Squadron, the chapel was finally able to provide that space.

The center will feature events like religious studies, but will also include communal activities like watching movies, playing video games, studying, or stopping for a cup of coffee.

The hope for the center is that it will be run by Airmen, with events also created by them.

“I’m excited about the AMC because it is an opportunity to have an effect on someone’s life,” said Airman 1st Class Bryon Stout, 11th Security Forces Squadron elite gate guardsman. “It’s an opportunity for me to help someone grow as well as learn and grow myself. Having a place in the dorms to go to has potential to be a blessing for many.”

The hours of operation will be based off of volunteers willing to open the center so that it can be open for day or night schedules.
