Imagine Andrews to hold Enrollment Lottery

Imagine Andrews Public Charter School will hold a lottery submission period Feb. 15 – May 25 for military families to enroll their children for the 2018-2019 school year.

 

The lottery will gather a pool of applicants over the course of three months to determine which students will have the opportunity to attend. Military families selected for enrollment will be notified between May 26 and June 4.

 

Imagine Andrews is a member of Imagine Schools, a national network of public charter schools that empowers educators in partnership with parents to prepare students for lives of leadership, accomplishment and character. 

 

Parents and legal guardians who submit for the lottery must be military members or dependents assigned to Joint Base Andrews and reside on base or within Prince George’s County.

 

This year, interested military families must contact Imagine Andrews to obtain a Prince George’s County Public Schools student identification number by calling (301) 316-1802, ext. 22. At that point, they should visit http://imagineandrews.org/families/enroll-your-child/ to apply.

 

Howard Rice, Imagine Andrews principal, said that the school takes a vested interest in its military dependent student. In response to the unique challenges that military children face, Imagine Andrews has employed “The Military Child Initiative” campaign.

 

“The main goals of the Military Child Initiative are to raise awareness of the unique challenges encountered by children from a military family, and to adapt research-based practical approaches to the school environment so that all students may thrive,” Rice said. “Our teachers are given autonomy to be creative, allowing us to address the individual academic needs of our scholars.”

 

According to the school’s official website, research shows that students whose parents are deployed in active war zones often experience emotional and behavioral problems that can alter their academic performance and outcomes.
