Volunteers bring life to Fisher House

By Airman 1st Class Jalene A. Brooks 11th Wing Public Affairs

Nearly 30 Joint Base Andrews Airmen volunteered to help bring life to the base Fisher House by cleaning and revamping the land scape, as well as decorating for fall festivities on Oct. 12 and Oct. 17.

The Fisher House Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides free housing for veterans and active-duty military members who require medical treatment at a military facility farther than 50 miles from their residence.

Veronica Harris, the house’s manager, hopes the new landscaping provides a welcoming feel to visitors and residents.

“We want to provide a clean colorful appealing place where our service members and even the base community can enjoy life free from financial and medical burdens and stress,” she said.

The Fisher House volunteers took a more festive approach to decorating the homes interior. By adding spiders, pumpkins, streamers, scare crows and candy, they hope make the half way home enjoyable for trick or treaters enjoying the upcoming base Fall Festival on Oct. 31.
