JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
The JBA Chaplain Corps hosted the annual Fall Festival here for thousands of attendees, Oct. 31.
Capt. Michael Farar, an 11th Wing Chaplain, said the event was the largest Fall Festival ever seen on base.
“This year was about three to five times the size of last year,” said Farar. “Last year, [the chaplains] bought three hundred meals, there were sixteen [decorated] trunks and an estimated 600 to 800 attendees.”
Being the biggest Fall Festival yet, the chaplains and volunteers prepared 1,500 meals, even with only half the attendees eating. Farar said they were overwhelmed with the participation.
Over 150 volunteers from 10 different squadrons showed up to support the festival. Even Tonya Wright, spouse of Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright, participated by presenting awards to costume contest winners.
“It was a win for everyone who came out,” said Farar, adding that the event's goal was to build a sense of family within the military community.
