Active-duty only clinical teams in Family Health clinics
The entire Air Force Medical Service, including the 11th Medical Group, is in the midst of a significant change – change that is expected to enhance many of the services patients receive from medics. AFMS would like all beneficiaries to understand the changes and what they mean for military members and their family.
On July 1, 2019, the 11th MDG will stand-up an active duty only clinical team within the Family Health clinics (at both Joint Base Andrews and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling). The team will be responsible for the operational medical readiness needs of Active Duty members enrolled to the 11th MDG, not on special duty or flying status, including members of the National Guard and Reserves on active-duty orders. Care and services for Non-Active Duty beneficiaries enrolled to the 11th MDG, including Family Health, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Flight Medicine, Pentagon/Banholzer, and Women's Health, will continue as presently delivered.
What does this mean for me?
In order to make this change, health care teams will change for many beneficiaries. Active Duty members enrolled to the 11th MDG will receive primary care through the Active Duty-only team and will be assigned a medical provider based on their military unit. This will enable tailored operational medical care and patient management to meet the unique needs of members performing different missions across the Joint Bases.
Non-Active Duty members (dependents, retirees) will continue to receive primary care in their clinic of assignment and will be assigned to a new provider only if their current provider is moving to the Active Duty clinical team. Provider assignments will be finalized over the next few weeks (no later than July 1). Provider assignments for patients receiving care in clinics outside of the Family Health clinics at JBA and JBAB will not change. Active Duty service members enrolled to clinics outside of JBA and JBAB will continue to be enrolled there.
How will I be informed that my provider has changed?
Beneficiaries will receive a written notification from the managed care support contractor, Humana, when a provider change is made. Unit commanders will be informed of the provider assignment for their unit.
Will I be able to change my provider?
Military members will be assigned to the same provider as all other members of the same unit. Non-Active Duty members may request a provider change within the assigned clinic.
