USAF Band performs Guest Artist Series

By Airman 1st Class Spencer Slocum 11th Wing Public Affairs

The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and members of the Singing Sergeants performed with guest singer Samantha Massell for the second installment of the Guest Artist Series Feb. 20, 2020, at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, Va.

The Guest Artist Series concerts provide a free opportunity for the public to experience the U.S. Air Force Band and guest artists.

“It was an honor to share the stage with the Air Force Band, I really couldn’t have had more fun,” Massell said.

The performance featured Broadway pieces from the stage and screen showcasing Ms. Massell's talent.

“Performing with Ms. Massell was great in the respect that she is a subject matter expert in this specific field and she brings a unique talent that we learned from,” said Col. Don Schofield, commander and conductor of The United States Air Force Band.

Massell is also a writer and actress with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theatre from the University of Michigan. She has appeared on TV shows including “Chicago Fire”, “NCIS: New Orleans” and “Elementary”.

The U.S. Air Force Band has featured artists such as saxophonist Joe Lulloff, percussion soloist Michael Burritt and singer Joni James.

“It was awesome seeing the Air Force Band,” said Madeline Jessal, a concert attendee. "I definitely want to come out for the next guest concert.”

The U.S. Air Force Band has one more Guest Artist Series concert slated to be performed with bass trombonist George Curran on March 19.
