America's Airman: A1C Benjamin Parma

By Airman 1st Class Spencer Slocum 316th Wing Public Affairs

What's your full name, job title and unit?

Airman 1st Class Benjamin Parma, Squadron Aviation Resource Manager, 1st Helicopter Squadron

What's your hometown city and state (and country, if not U.S.)?

Magnolia, Texas

Why did you decide to serve in the military?

I decided I wanted to do something different with my life after I was in college for a couple years.

How do you think your job impacts the wing’s mission?

We confirm our aircrew’s training is current and that they have the proper qualifications prior to every flight. We also ensure the safety of our members as well as the high ranking officials that they transport.

What's been your favorite assignment/Tour of Duty (TDY) and why?

A few short months after arriving at Joint Base Andrews, I was able to go on a TDY to West Virginia. Being new to the squadron, I was able to experience how the mission took place remotely.

What is your dream assignment and why?

Being stationed at Andrews was my dream assignment. I wanted to be somewhere up North, and at a base close to a major city.

What's the coolest thing you’ve done in the military?

I was picked up in a helicopter and was able to see Washington, D.C. from above at night.

What hobbies do you have/what do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy being outside as much as possible. I enjoy riding my bike throughout the D.C. area, eating at restaurants along The Wharf and playing video games.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life?

My biggest challenge was learning and experiencing life on my own and learning from the mistakes I have made along the way.
