316th Medical Squadron welcomes new commander

By Airman 1st Class Bridgitte Taylor 316th Wing Public Affairs

Lt. Col. Marie-Antonette C. Brancato assumed command of the 316th Medical Squadron from Col. David Mapes during a change of command ceremony at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C., July 29.

Col. Jason J. Lennen, 316th Medical Group commander, presided over the ceremony to activate the new commander.

“Brancato is exceptionally well-qualified to command this medical squadron,” said Lennen. “She’s uniquely qualified because she has consistently demonstrated the abilities to lead and develop Airmen, maximize readiness, understand and support the big picture, and thrive under challenging circumstances.”

Lennen then transferred command from Mapes to Brancato.

During his command from 2018 to 2020, Mapes led 205 personnel across seven flights in four operating locations, providing medical support to 500,000 beneficiaries in the National Capital Region. Additionally, Mapes supported a mental health team in two high-risk squadrons that resulted in a 62% reduction in suicide and substance abuse.

Mapes is heading onward to Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, to continue to be a part of the Air Force mission for dental and medical operations.
