PRESS RELEASE: Two gate runners enter JBA

316th Wing Public Affairs

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- At approximately 9 p.m. on March 6, 2022, one vehicle drove through the security checkpoint and failed to adhere to commands of security personnel at the Main Gate.

The 316th Security Forces Group immediately deployed the barriers and stopped the vehicle. Two individuals fled the vehicle, and one was apprehended by 316th SFG. One individual remains at large.

We can confirm that the individual who was apprehended had a weapon, but no shots have been fired.

There is not an active shooter situation at Joint Base Andrews; however, the intruder’s whereabouts are currently unknown.

We will post updates to this page as more details are confirmed.

The main gate remains closed at this time. Base traffic is being diverted to the Virginia Gate.

----UPDATE----

Update 1 for JBA Residents: Our Security Forces Defenders are continuing to conduct an initial sweep across the installation with base housing as our first priority. After initial sweeps, a deep search will occur across the base if the intruder has not yet been found.

The Main Gate remains closed. We are slowly allowing vehicles through the Virginia Gate at this time, but everyone is encouraged to avoid the gate if travel on/off base is not necessary tonight.

We will continue to post updates to this page.

----UPDATE 2----

Update 2 for JBA Residents: The Main Gate is now open, and the Virginia Gate will remain open throughout the night.

A full sweep of the base has been conducted and our Defenders, along with our local partners, found evidence that the base intruder departed the installation.

A more thorough update will be posted in the morning.
