By Airman 1st Class Isabelle Churchill, 316th Wing Public Affairs

A group of 316th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron aerospace medical technicians and corpsmen from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center assisted more than 30 wounded service members in offloading from a C-17 Globemaster 3 and boarding a medical transport bus during a routine mission at Joint Base Andrews, Md., July 7, 2022.

The patients were taken to JBA’s En-Route Patient Staging Facility, where they received care for 24 hours before being airlifted to various locations throughout the United States.

The En-Route Patient Staging Facility serves as the primary East Coast hub for military aeromedical evacuation aircraft returning sick or injured patients from Europe, Africa and the Middle East to the United States for care. The medical staff works closely with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center patient transfer unit and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital patient transfer unit.
