Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling –
The 579th Medical Group and security services will join forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration to collect unused and expired prescription medications 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. April 28 at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Base Exchange.
The DEA initiative affords the military community a safe and convenient way to rid their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. This is the second time JBAB will participate in the bi-annual DEA initiative.
According to the DEA, in the past 13 months Americans have turned in approximately 500 tons of medication at 5,327 sites operated by the DEA and more than 3,000 state and local law enforcement partners. Disposing of expired and unused medications can prevent drug abuse or theft of these potentially powerful substances. Vials, syringes or injectables cannot be accepted.
"We plan on making it a tradition for the safety and convenience of our patients," said Colonel Roseanne Warner, 579th Medical Group commander. "Last time we collected more than 27 pounds of drugs. I hope everyone will come out and participate, no questions asked."
