Sandy leaves Andrews nearly unscathed

11th Wing Public Affairs

Col. William Knight, 11th Wing/Joint Base Andrews commander, has terminated HURCON 1.

Hurricane Sandy moved out of the area early this morning after dumping nearly 10 inches of rain and delivering winds in excess of 50 knots. Minimal damage was reported, and cleanup efforts have already begun.

Andrews is closed to non mission essential personnel in effort to minimize travel on base today as crews work to remove debris and make repairs after the storm. Report any damage to the damage control center at 301-981-5163.

Team Andrews is expected to resume normal operations Oct. 31, and the majority of services on base are expected to be open.

More information will be posted here and on the Andrews Facebook and Twitter pages as it becomes available.
