Andrews closes in preparation for Sandy

11th Wing Public Affairs

Col. William Knight, 11th Wing commander, has announced preparations for Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to make landfall late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Joint Base Andrews will be under Hurricane Condition 2 as of 10 p.m. Oct. 28. Andrews will be closed to non-essential personnel as of 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29.

Only mission-essential military and civilian personnel, as deemed so by their unit commander, should report Monday, and utility uniforms are authorized for that day.

All other personnel authorized by their commanders to remain at home will be on telephone standby starting at 7 a.m. on Oct. 29.

The Child Development Centers will remain open and operate at normal hours to support those who will report.

Malcom Grow Medical Center close as well, and will re-schedule appointments until after the storm has passed.

If you are unsure whether you should report Monday, check with you unit leadership.
