Ballin at Bolling

By Senior Airman Torey Griffith 11th Wing Public Affairs

An Air Force Ball, with formal attire required, lots of brass around and stuffy violin music everywhere may not be every Airman's cup of tea. The Air Force District of Washington Air Force Ball, on the other hand, promises to be none of those things this year when it is slated to occur at the Joint Base Annacostia-Bolling Club on September 16.

With a theme of "Airmen ... Strength in Diversity," the ball will be geared toward younger Airmen with a blend of Air Force tradition with music, dancing and the absence of a guest speaker.

"Our goal is to get more of the younger Airmen to come out," said Col. Anthony Thomas, 844th Communications Group and AFDW A/6 commander. "We want the crowd to participate, so we are incorporating things into the event that will engage attendees."

While an exact roster of entertainers hasn't been finalized, attendees can expect to see the United States Air Force Band and Max Impact perform. With the ball more than two months away, Thomas promises there will be surprises.

"Try it, you'll like it," he said. "We are out to show our junior members that there is more to the Air Force than just the jobs they do."

The ball will begin at 6 p.m. with an hour-long cocktail party and then a formal dinner at 7 p.m. followed by entertainment and dancing.

Attire for the evening will be Mess Dress or Modified Service Dress for servicemembers and civilian guests should wear formal clothing.

The cost for tickets is: $25 for ranks E-1 - E-4; $35 for ranks E-5 - E-6, O-1 - O-3 and GS9 and below; $45 for ranks E-7 - E-9, O-4 and above as well as GS10 and above.

For tickets and more information, contact Master Sgt. Jennifer Davis at 240-857-8527 or Jennifer.davis@afncr.af.mil.
