New treatment for post traumatic stress disorder

By Melanie Moore 79th Medical Wing

Malcolm Grow Medical Center trained a handful of mental health specialists on the use of the latest Virtual Reality technology. This technology, which replicates war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, is no game. It is designed to treat wounded warriors returning from the front line to overcome the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

If you know someone suffering from PTSD due to combat experiences in Iraq or Afghanistan, have them check with their doctor to see if this treatment would be right for them. Patients must get a referral from their Tricare provider. For more information on this new treatment at the 779th Medical Operations Squadron, call 240-857-8942.
