Readiness team helps reintegrate downrange warriors to Team Andrews

By Chelsea Gitzen Capital Flyer staff writer

With more than 380 Airman currently deployed, Joint Base Andrews has a consistent amount of servicemembers returning home from downrange. Whether the warriors are on the battlefield or returning from it, the Airman & Family Readiness team works to make sure all of their and their family's needs are met.

Members of the readiness team at the A&FRC host a re-integration briefing twice a week to acclimate returning Joint Base Andrews members to the installation community.

"The re-integration briefing lets servicemembers returning from a deployment know about the programs that are available to assist them in transitioning back to their home life," said Master Sgt. Erika Perrin, A&FRC NCO in charge of readiness and the program's coordinator. "The briefing also gives them an opportunity to address any concerns they may have personally or with the support they received before, during or after their deployment."

At the briefing, all aspects of returning from a deployment are covered.

Each servicemember's physical health is assessed through a questionnaire. They are also instructed to complete post-deployment blood work. Their mental health is assessed as well through a roundtable discussion and exercises engaging responses.

Servicemembers receive a briefing reminding them of the signs of suicide, and what programs are in place to prevent it. Military family life consultants are available to discuss the impact a deployment has on their family.

A chaplain also briefs and addresses any issues voiced from a spiritual standpoint. Military legal personnel also have carved out a place in the briefing to speak with any members who may have legal concerns or questions.

Members of the finance office notify the servicemembers of vouchers that need to be completed, entitlements and answer any questions.

Members of the readiness team at the A&FRC notify the Airmen of all of the various services the center and its teams provide, such as car maintenance and childcare, said Sergeant Perrin.

Addressing the challenge of re-integrating our troops is both difficult and vital. Joint Team Andrews members at the A&FRC work as a cohesive unit to care for returning Airmen.

"It takes a collaborative effort from unit leadership and support agencies to really provide the first class service they deserve," said Sergeant Perrin.

Spouses are highly encouraged to attend the re-integration briefings. Registration is required by noon the day before each briefing.
