Six more weeks of winter? Dress for the weather and stay in regs

By Master Sgt. Jeffrey Bise 316th Logistics Readiness Squadron first sergeant

On Feb. 2, Punxsutawney Phil, the official mascot for Groundhog Day, proclaimed that America will have to suffer six more weeks of winter.

With this news, Airmen stationed here need to remember what clothing items are approved for wear with the Airmen Battle Uniform.

As Air Force members continue to transition from the Battle Dress Uniform to the ABU, there seems to be more uniform items appearing as undergarments for the ABU.

Items authorized as undergarments for the ABU are:
- Black/Green Fleece (authorized under the APECS)
- Desert Sand Turtleneck (authorized under the ABU)
- White/Cream/Desert Sand Thermal Underwear (authorized undergarment for ABU)
- Green/Brown Sleep Shirt (authorized as an undergarment to the ABU)

Items authorized as outergarments are:
- Improved Rain Suit
- Improved Rain Suit Liner (authorized as an undergarment to the Improved Rain Suit)
- Cold Weather Parka All-Purpose Environmental Clothing System
- Blue All-Weather Coat

316th Wing leaders authorized wear of BDU Gortex until May 1 "AFI 36-2618, The Enlisted Force Structure," states Airmen (all ranks) should set the highest standards of dress and appearance. If you see uniform items being improperly worn, don't just ignore it. In a professional manner, approach the individual and make the correction.

Lastly, hang in there, warmer weather is just around the corner.
