Beginning Monday, exiting the Main Gate here via Brookley Avenue will be restricted from Westover Drive to F Street.
Concrete curbing and road repair will be completed, said Eric Rothermel, 316th Civil Engineer Squadron pavements engineer and project manager for the Brookley Avenue Repair Project. The construction will take place for approximately three weeks depending on the weather.
During this time, traffic exiting the Main Gate will need to use Arnold Avenue to exit via Westover Avenue or North Perimeter Road to exit via the North Gate. Signs will be posted during the construction period to assist motorists.
"Our plan is to complete in two phases," said Mr. Rothermel. "First, we'll take out the northern half of Brookley Avenue, while still allowing access in and out of the Burger King parking lot on the south side near G Street. Once that's complete, we'll move to the southern half with access to the Burger King through the north end of Brookley Avenue from Westover Drive."
"The road work will affect the entrance ways to the security forces building, Base Exchange loading dock, Burger King and the side street behind the Four Seasons," said Larry Ross, 316 CES construction inspector. "The entrances to (the security forces building) and the loading dock for the Base Exchange will remain open during both phases of construction. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed through the construction area.
The welcomed addition to the "Andrews... Make it Yours" campaign began Tuesday as work crews were in the early stages of repairing Brookley Avenue from Westover Drive to F Street, said Mr. Rothermel.
The repairs were funded at the end of fiscal year 2006, along with more than $20 million in other base improvements. More than 40 active construction, maintenance and repair projects here are valued in excess of $130 million to include Brookley Avenue.
