Miniature lords and ladies built castles, made shields and romped in a ball-pit castle here Tuesday as the Andrews Library kicked off its "A Knight's Tale" themed summer reading program.
The free for all ages program provides an incentive to read during the summer months in the form of a prize for every log sheet turned in, with a grand prize for the reader with the most books logged.
"It's free, it's fun and it's for everyone," said Barbara Auman, a cataloger at the library. "It keeps kids reading all summer long, which keeps their skills sharpened for the next school year."
More than 350 persons participated last year and the staff at the library hopes for more this year.
"We will have events each week for participants to come to and socialize with each other," said Sarah Wolff, Andrews Library technician. "We will be having a medieval European martial arts demonstration, game day and even an ice cream day.
The final event is the "close the drawbridge" day, complete with pony rides, a blow-up castle, jousting activities and an awards ceremony.
The program runs from June 21 to August 13.
