Command of 316th Medical Group changes hands

By Airman 1st Class Gianluca Ciccopiedi | 316th Wing Public Affairs

U.S. Air Force Col. Stacy G. Friesen assumed command of the 316th Medical Group during a ceremony, Aug. 20.

Friesen previously served as the deputy command surgeon for Air Force Central Command at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. Her career also includes leadership positions in both operational and staff assignments, with a particular focus on medical operations and health care strategy. Friesen has served in various roles across the Air Force, including command positions and deployments in support of operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve, and other key missions.

As commander, Friesen oversees the 316th MDG’s healthcare services, which supports more than 28,700 enrollees and 404,000 eligible beneficiaries throughout the National Capital Region. The group operates key medical facilities throughout the NCR, including the Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center at Andrews, and plays a role in maintaining the readiness and well-being of service members and their families.

During the ceremony, Friesen spoke about the group's significant responsibilities and the importance of their mission.

"As military medics, we are charged with delivering health care anytime, anywhere, and we bear a huge responsibility to maintain the health of the force and to keep ourselves ready to deploy," Friesen said.

Friesen also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead such a distinguished team.

"I am honored to have been selected to be here, and I hope that over the next couple of years, I can give back to you as much as I know I will receive." Friesen said.

Outgoing commander, U.S. Air Force Col. Robert Corby, retiring after 33 years of service, reflected on his tenure and commended the 316th MDG for their professionalism and dedication. He highlighted significant achievements and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the team.

"Just looking back on some of the group-wide achievements, I’m in awe of what you have accomplished," Corby said. "It has been an absolute honor to be your commander."
