July marks 64-year birthday celebration of AF Nurse Corps

Nurses from the 779th Medical Group on Joint Base Andrews, Md., and the 579th Medical Group located on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, D.C., celebrated their 64th Birthday in the Air Force Nurses Corps on July 1, 2013 .

Both medical groups are a part of the 79th Medical Wing headquartered at JBA. 

Additionally, there are 79th MDW nurses working across the National Capital Region to include The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Md., The Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Va., Fort George Meade, Md., and the Pentagon in Arlington, Va.

The Nurse Corps consists entirely of commissioned officers.

New members of the Air Force Nurse Corps are required to hold at minimum a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree prior to receiving their commission.

Members of the Air Force Nurse Corps work in all aspects of Air Force Medicine and can serve as flight nurse in aeromedical evacuation missions, nurse practitioner, and nurse anesthetist.
