Summer Concert Series Coming Your Way

By TSgt Mandi Harper and TSgt Kaitlin Taylor

Throughout the months of June, July and August, the United States Air Force Band's various performing ensembles present free, outdoor concerts at historic venues around our nation's capital. Here's where you can find us:

U.S. Capitol Building
Tuesdays at 8 p.m., beginning June 7

Tourists and locals alike can partake of concerts at the west side steps of The U.S. Capitol.  Enjoy views of the Washington Monument as the sun goes down and the music lights up. On-street parking is available after 6:30 p.m. The closest Metro stops are Capitol South and Smithsonian. For more information:  https://www.aoc.gov/nations-stage/concerts

Air Force Memorial
Fridays at 8 p.m., beginning June 3

The Air Force Memorial honors the men and women of the United States Air Force and the Band is excited to pay tribute to all our nation's veterans there again this season. For directions and parking, or to learn more about the memorial, please visit:  http://www.airforcememorial.org/home

National Harbor
Saturdays at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m., beginning May 28

Though the Band has performed at National Harbor in the past, this year we make it a regular occurrence. Enjoy dining and shopping, then close out the evening with a show. Please check the calendar as the concert times may change. For directions and more:  http://www.nationalharbor.com

Additionally, there are 20-minute concerts at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum on various dates throughout the summer.  These are perfect for catching a little entertainment on your lunch break!  These "Museum Shows" typically begin on the hour, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Please check our events calendar for specific dates, performers and locations and for additional concerts which occur throughout the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.

This summer marks the 75th birthday of your United States Air Force Band, and we want you to come and celebrate the occasion! Be sure to join us on Friday, June 10 at the Air Force Memorial at 8pm for a special concert featuring the Airmen of Note and some of their distinguished alumni. The culminating performance of our 75th Anniversary Celebration will be held on Saturday June, 11, 2016 at George Mason University. This classical concert will feature both current members and alumni.

As always, the pinnacle of our Summer Series is our Independence Day Concert. This year the Airmen of Note will perform a "Star Spangled Spectacular!" at the U.S. Air Force Memorial. Meanwhile, the Ceremonial Brass, Concert Band and Singing Sergeants will travel to New York City to appear on Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. That performance will be broadcast nationwide on NBC. Check your local listings and be sure to tune in as we celebrate America's birthday.
So, please come out and join us for an exciting concert season, filled with music from America and around the world. From our opening "Summer Celebration" concert with Conductor Major Matthew Henry, to Celtic Aire's "Celtic Jukebox," to the Airmen of Note's "Big Band through the Years," there is sure to be a program to please every musical taste!
Complete concert listings can be found on our events calendar.  We look forward to seeing you and hope you enjoy free performances by our Airmen musicians throughout the summer.
