Band hits high note with AIM

By Senior Airman Dylan Nuckolls 11th Wing Public Affairs

The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants recently completed their spring concert tour across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas, April 15, 2016.

Performing 12 concerts in 12 days, the band also worked with students during the tour through their Advancing Innovation through Music program.

"The AIM program was created to have a way to introduce music to all ages and bring the Air Force Band into communities and schools," said Tech. Sgt. Sara Wollmacher, Concert Band clarinetist.

The program allowed band members to work with college, high school and middle school students during the clinics on the tour, according to Wollmacher.

"We held five master class clinics at schools and every night we had students join us during our performances," Wollmacher said. "We worked with 1,000 students from 14 schools across five states on the tour."

According to John Schuesselin, University of Mississippi associate professor of music, band members held master classes which allowed students to play pieces that they've been working on; the band members demonstrated the piece, and provided feedback and suggestions to further musical growth.

"I just want to say thank you," Schuesselin said. "I learned a lot, the students learned a lot and it was very generous of their time on a busy tour."
