811th SFS awarded VP Service Badge

By Airman Gabrielle Spalding 11th Wing Public Affairs

Five 811th Security Forces Squadron Airmen have been awarded the Vice Presidential Service Badge for their support of the VP of the United States, April 15, 2016.

"These individuals have been hand selected to join the six-man Vice Presidential Security Team, where they conduct air and ground security during high visibility missions," said Staff Sgt. Ricardo Ramos, 811th Security Forces Squadron vice presidential security team leader. "They have dedicated more than 950 hours on different missions during the year, devoting their lives to one of the 811th SFS's most important missions."

The VPSB is awarded to members of the military who serve as a full-time uniformed service aide to the Vice President of the United States and was established under Executive Order by President Richard Nixon on July 8, 1970, then modified by President Gerald R. Ford on July 19, 1976.

The VPSB is considered a permanent decoration and is authorized for the continued wear throughout a uniformed service career, even when no longer directly serving the VP.
The badge is very similar to the Presidential service badge, authorized for uniformed service personnel assigned to the staff of the President of the United States.

"I have accomplished more than I ever thought I would being from a small farming community in Schoolcraft, Michigan where my graduating class was 94 people," said Staff Sgt. Chad A. Holling, 811th SFS vice presidential security team leader. "I was extremely honored to receive the Vice Presidential Service Badge. Receiving this award has made me proud to be part of the Executive Aircraft Security Section and how this section provides the most professional security in the Air Force."
