Family Child Care purples up for Month of the Military Child

By Airman 1st Class Rustie Kramer 11th Wing Public Affairs

JBA Family Child Care celebrated National Purple Up day, April 15, 2016 at the Liberty Park Housing Office.

National Purple Up day is a time to show support for military families during Month of the Military Child, an annual month-long celebration to honor military youth for the role they play contributing to the strength of the military family.

Michelle Damon, an FCC provider with the 11th Force Support Squadron, said MOTMC is a way to applaud military children for their sacrifices because sometimes they get lost in the background. It's just giving them their own special time to shine.

FCC is an alternative to center-based programs and provides in-home childcare.  This is the first year FCC has participated in MOTMC events at JBA.

"They are military children too," said Barbara Smith, FCC coordinator with the 11th FSS.  "It shows and lets them know that we appreciate them."

During Purple Up day, FCC held a "purple" parade and craft fair for parents and children. The activities included painting canvas, planting seeds and decorating t-shirts.
MOTMC has a different theme each week; past themes have included health and fitness. April 18-23 is dedicated to deployment and has scheduled activities for parents and children related to the theme.
