JBA and Locals Remember 9/11

By Airman 1st Class Valentina Lopez 11th Wing Public Affairs

Joint Base Andrews members and local first responders took part in the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony held at Heritage Park on JBA, Md., Sept. 9.

More than one hundred military members pay tribute to first responders and victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

This event is held every year to honor the men and women who lost their lives.

Col. E. John Teichert, 11th Wing and JBA commander, was a keynote speaker at the event and spoke about the privilege of having local first responders play a role in the ceremony.

“It’s a great honor to speak in front of not just the folks that are here representing our base, but also some of the heroes that were here 15 years ago,” Teichert said. “We have a lot of interaction with first responders. We value their role and they are pillars of this community.”

Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services had a big role in the setting up of the event, which included emergency responder displays and joint military formations to represent military, civilian and contractors.

“It’s truly amazing to be involved in this event,” said Thomas Smith, Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department fire technician. “The military and local working together it’s good for individuals to remember and push forward as a nation.”
