Puranen Stands Out Amongst His Peers

By Airman 1st Class Joshua R.M. Dewberry 11th Wing Public Affairs

Airman 1st Class Brian Puranen, 11th Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle maintenance apprentice, is the warrior of the week.

This Hartland, Mich., native is being recognized this week due to his overhauling a crash fire truck and rear axle units in which he replaced all the axle seals in under seven hours as opposed to the normal 12. His actions not only restored 100 percent firefighting capability, but also preserved the $6,000 components.

Additionally, he recently performed triage maintenance on a snow broom hood returning the vehicle to service in six hours and restored 25 percent of snow removal capabilities.

He also passed his CDC course exam with an astounding 96 percent due to his diligent study habits and has been recognized for having the best dorm room out of his 22 peers.

His normal responsibilities include stand-by maintenance on 811 vehicles and equipment, overhauling and replacing major and minor assemblies, to include drive train, electrical, fuel and steering systems.

Puranen entered the Air Force in August of 2012 and was stationed at Joint Base Andrews in May of 2013.

When off duty, Puranen enjoys playing hockey.
